Ever wonder what your pet would say...
When they are dropped off for a hospital stay?
                       Well, the suspense is over!

Sweet little Lily, a six month old
                                                             Cavalier King Charles Spaniel,
volunteered to tell the tale of her
spay surgery day at Springs Family Vet!

"Today I came to the pet hospital for my spay surgery. When I came in, the yummy treats offered by the scale weren’t allowed. Mom drops me off with a snack for after my surgery, though, and the friendly girls at the desk promise me I’ll get plenty as soon as we’re done!

In the back, my technician Macy made me a comfortable kennel with a warm bed and blankets. I get lots of attention while waiting for my turn.

Dr Ryan examines me to make sure I am strong and healthy, then gives me a poke that I hardly notice because there are so many pets and cuddles to go around. Soon, I start to feel really sleepy and drift off in the nice bed they made for me.

After that, the technician finishes getting me ready for surgery. She places a catheter in my arm so that I will stay hydrated during surgery. I’m feeling so sleepy that I don’t notice the pinch. Soon after, the technician will use the catheter to deliver medication, and after that I won’t remember the rest!

Next, when I'm comfortable enough for her to do so, she will place a tube. This makes sure I can breathe and get plenty of oxygen.

Dr Ryan’s job is next! She carefully completes the surgery while Macy watches closely to make sure all is well.

As I wake up, the first thing I notice is how warm and cozy I feel. Macy stays with me and removes my tube and catheter when I begin to wake up.

There are plenty of soft blankets and even a nice, toasty breeze! Macy told me that surgery patients are kept warm with the Bair Hugger, a machine similar to a heater.

When I am able, the assistants take me for a nice walk outside and give me that yummy snack
that mom packed.

Not long after, I hear mom’s voice, and it's time to go home! Before I leave, the technician
gives me a funny hat to wear. I’m not a fan!

Lastly, Dr Ryan gives medicine to go home with me to make sure that I stay comfortable until healing is complete."

Many thanks to sweet Lily for being the best patient and for sharing her special day with everyone!
