Many cats enjoy and benefit from the Fear Free environment and amenities that exist at Springs Family Veterinary Hospital. Together with pet owners, we have been able to create veterinary care that caters to cats’ emotional and species-specific needs, both in home and at the hospital. To expand the resources that exist for our feline patients, and moving into the summer vacation season, we wanted to share an option for kitty boarding that shares the same values as we do.

For our feline patients, SFVH is excited to share with you services by The Country Kitty B&B. We interviewed Lynn Conlon, Operator of The Country Kitty B&B since 2006. Before Lynn, the business was a trusted option for kitties and has been providing services for 24 years! The idea to provide boarding for cats began with founders' Kip and Jean’s pet having a tough time after spending time away from home. Ever since, they’ve been providing a comfortable place for cats, and even offer specialized services for nervous kitties too.

Lynn acknowledges, “Cats do not like change in their routine or environment. Cats need a space of their own where they can be comfortable and feel safe.”  For The Country Kitty B&B, this means boarding cats looks a little different than you might be imagining. Each resident at the B&B is checked into a 5' by 9' suite fitted with a large window that overlooks the countryside. Guests enjoy not only the view, but also the 9 foot ceilings that are included with their stay. Cohesive kitty families can be kept together in up to groups of three.

Aside from enjoying these generous amenities, guests receive top-notch care, including keeping consistency in routines. Caregivers spend most of the day interacting with guests. “We brush them and play with them...some cats are happy to just have us sit in the chair in the room and keep them company.” Food can be provided by the pet owner and will be given according to your pet’s preference.

Similar to the tools you may use during your veterinary visits, pet owners are encouraged to bring things from home that would keep their pet comfortable, such as a familiar blanket or toy. Just like the pheromones that help to calm your cat at Springs Family Veterinary Hospital, the B&B utilizes Feliway pheromones to help comfort nervous pets.

The Country Kitty B&B works closely with veterinarians in order to keep guests in good health. Pets are required to have up-to-date Rabies and Distemper vaccinations, as well as a recent FIV/FeLV test. The rooms and litter areas are cleaned twice daily while caregivers keep a close eye on guests' litter habits. They will be in touch with your veterinarian if anything looks amiss.

For pets that have FIV/FeLV, a specialized room awaits. They utilize HEPA filters and UV sterilizers, as well as strict separation protocols to ensure the health of all guests during their stay.
